Why Digress?

Danny and I have been serving in pastoral ministry together for several years. We have put together hundreds of pages of material for classes, sermons, retreats, school papers, doctrinal statements, and other material for the local church. Writing is a large part of our lives and there is no better subject matter than our God and Savior, Jesus Christ. We have talked about putting something like this together for some time and it has finally become a reality through Theological Digressions.

Why “Digress?”

Anyone who knows us or has been exposed to our teaching and preaching knows that we like to follow the “rabbit trail” of a thought, concept, and meandering that grabs our attention. It can be a concept that links two texts in Scripture, an article that was read earlier in the day, or some obscure historical tidbit that brings a “Eureka” moment of clarity to the text at hand, to name a few. Hence, we have to frequently utilize the “But I digress” button and return to the original thought.

What do you Believe?

We are Christians: We believe in Jesus Christ as our personal Lord and Savior.

We are Protestants: We adhere to the five “solas” of the Reformation.

We are Reformed: We believe in and adhere to the principles of the doctrines of grace.

We are Expositors: We believe in the careful and methodical understanding and explaining of God’s Word.

We are Church-Goers: We believe that the Lord has commanded all Christians to be healthy members in the local church.

We are Mission-Minded: We believe the goal of missions in the Old and New Testaments are the same:  to bring God glory through the spiritual conversion of unbelievers who become worshipers of the Lord God Almighty.

What is your logo?

One of our favorite things to do as brothers is sit down and enjoy a cup of coffee and discuss the Lord, ministry, life, and what we have been reading. The logo contains a subtle nod to that love with the book on top and the coffee mug below. While coffee is our “go-to” drink, we do enjoy tea once in awhile.

What Should I Expect?

Initially, we plan on posting at least three times a week on Monday, Wednesday, and Friday.

Our goal is to provide consistent and high-quality content for Christian living. The content, ideas, writing, and segments will evolve and change over time. We are seeking to establish a pattern of consistency through content creation and content curation. As we navigate through this new endeavor together, we do not expect that every idea or blog post will resonate and some ideas will go the way of the chaff.

We will be writing anything related to theology and Christian living in this fallen world. This will include reflections, expositions, book reviews, and anything else that we believe would resonate and be valuable to those who read it. Writing about the Almighty God whom we love and serve results in inexhaustible source material. The Lord is the greatest being in existence, therefore writing about Him is an amazing joy and privilege that He has given. Our prayer then is that you are blessed, encouraged, exhorted, and maturing by reading our material for the glory of God.
