It has been a while since I posted from Richard Baxter’s “Truths about God’s Grace”, so I thought I would begin with his twelfth truth on the list.
“The best of us need pardon daily, even for the faults in performance of their holiest duties, and must daily live in reliance on Christ for that pardon.”
Richard Baxter
Relying on Christ is not something that we should exclusively do when times get tough. Relying on Christ is something that we must do daily. Only through Christ are we preserved through the daily toil that we face. The Apostle Paul understood this and it would serve us well if we took the time to study and meditate on Romans 7.
We have to remember that Christ has begun a work in us and will bring it to completion in the day of our Lord. I know that some of us have faced some tough times and you may feel like throwing your hands in the air and saying “I am done!” I am telling you that if we focus on the truths of the Lord, we will not reach that point. For this post, I am going to be brief, for I know that reading and praying through Romans 7 is far better than anything that I can say. I leave you with the closing verses of the said chapter:
Romans 7:24–25
Wretched man that I am! Who will deliver me from this body of death? Thanks be to God through Jesus Christ our Lord! So then, I myself serve the law of God with my mind, but with my flesh I serve the law of sin.
